When we reach the age of a teenager or young adult, we expect them to have learned to be responsible for their actions and to be ready to accept the praise or consequences he receives. The sooner a teenager takes responsibility for their actions, the better prepared they will be for life as they get older. Adolescents need to understand the consequences of their actions and realize the implications it has on others. In Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, the main characters, Biff Loman and Jay Gatsby, both defy their parents' influence and become something and someone they never became.
