Attention must therefore be paid to this devastating problem. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes harmful changes (Wieman, 2013). There are many types of pollution, such as light, air, land, water, noise, thermal and radioactive pollution. In an article, the author pointed out that according to Richard Buckminster Fuller, “pollution is nothing other than the resources that we do not harvest, we let them disperse because we do not know their value” (Farrell, 1971, p.52). . Pollution is primarily created by human actions, but can also result from natural disasters. Pollution can harm the world's environment and its people in several ways. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any organism living in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life (Enclyopedia - Pollution, 2008). Pollution is a major problem in the Bahamas and around the world. The Bahamas is a beautiful archipelago made up of seven hundred islands and cays surrounded by water and is known for its water, sand and sunny climate (Tourism Today, 2011). The Bahamas is a less developed country and has experienced the majority of the situations and problems that more developed countries face, such as pollution. Pollution in the Bahamas is a very significant problem as it affects the citizens of the Bahamas as well as the waters, land, and air quality of the Bahamas.
