Title: HiroshimaType of book: Non-fictionSummary:The book, Hiroshima, is the story of six individuals who suffered the true effects of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on the 6th August 1945. Miss Toshinki Sasaki, an employee of the East Asia Tin Works factory, had just sat down in the factory office and was turning to converse with the girl in the neighboring office when the bomb exploded. Dr. Masakazu Fujii, a physician, was relaxing on his porch overlooking the Kyo River, where he was reading the morning periodical when the shell exploded. Before the eruption, Ms. Hatsuyo Nakamura watched as her neighbor destroyed her home in a fire in preparation for a U.S. attack. Before the attack, Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, a German priest, was lying on a cot in the missionary house of the Society of Jesus, reading his Stimmen der Zeit. Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, a young Red Cross surgeon, was walking down the hospital corridor with a blood sample for a Wassermann test when he was ejected by the flow. The pastor of the Hiroshima Methodist Church, the Rev. Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, was about to unload a cart of clothing at the home of a prosperous associate in the suburbs when lightning consumed the structure. Not everyone was aware of the explosion as an alarm siren had just sounded. After the bomb exploded, the six individuals found themselves in a difficult situation to escape from. Miss Sasaki was trapped under the ceiling, books and shelves of the Eat Asia Tin Works factory. Dr. Fujii's house collapsed on him, leaving Dr. Fujii trapped between two long V-shaped beams on his chest. Fortunately, Dr. Fujii had his head sticking out of the Kyo River, but his torso and legs were in the river. Ms. Nakamura was buried in the woods, albeit lightly, because she was able to free herself. As soon as she is emancipated, she begins to search the rubble in search of her children. Father Kleinsorge regained consciousness a few minutes after the explosion. Father Kleinsorge doesn't remember how he got out, but the first thing he remembers is walking around the mission garden in his underwear. After the first explosion, the dead and injured remained everywhere, the fires reduced buildings to ashes and remained uncontrollable, leaving the city in total chaos. Dr. Fujii, Father Kleinsorge and Mr....... middle of paper ...... while the heater was on but not burning. They did everything they could to revive him but he remained in a coma. On January 4, he made what appeared to be a remarkable recovery, but it only lasted a few days. Then, on January 25, he lost consciousness again and lived for 11 years as a vegetable. He died on January 12, 1973. Kiyoshi Tanimoto began preaching again about a year after the bombing. He did so with four other Protestant ministers on a hut where houses once stood. As there was no building, he soon realized how futile his efforts were. He attempted to restore the town's church, but funds and supplies were limited. In October 1948, he left for San Francisco to raise funds for this new church. Over the next few years, he returned to the United States for numerous speaking engagements. He began planning a peace center. In 1955, he accompanied the girls to New York for their plastic surgery. He was soon rushed to the West Coast for another fundraising tour. He even appeared in an episode of “This Is Your Life.” Tanimoto made three more lecture trips to the United States in 1976, 1981, and 1982. He retired from the professorship in 1982, when he was over..
