Classroom Management and DisciplineMy classroom management plan is very simple, but I have found it extremely effective. This strategy has worked in every class I have taught. My approach is always student-centered as I will help students develop a sense of responsibility for the actions they choose. The standards of behavior in my classroom are high but developmentally appropriate for the grade I teach. My students will play a fair role in creating rules for our classroom environment. Together we will assess what behavior is appropriate for our class. I will write these rules as positive statements to post around the room and ensure that all students understand our class expectations. Students will face the consequences of not following the rules we have collectively established. My constant goal is to be firm, kind, and consistent in my approach to rules and consequences. This will help foster a composed, safe, and systematic classroom – one in which learning is facilitated. Classroom Procedures I want to be consistent with my students regarding our classroom procedures. I will always have the agenda on the board so they can copy it into their notebook daily when they come into our room. Additionally, there will be warm-ups that return to a previous lesson. I use an interactive notebook that allows students to create a compilation of notes, assignments, and graphic organizers. The purpose of this notebook is to keep all class materials in one place and students have the opportunity to create their own unique works in their notebook to take with them at the end of the year. Then, we will discuss any other issues raised by a student or even by myself. These class meetings can help cultivate positive relationships within our class.
