  • Essay / Catch-22: The Main Effects of Divorce - 726

Divorce happens almost every day in America, there is a divorce approximately every 36 seconds, according to Irvin McKinley (2012). McKinley goes on to write that this amounts to nearly 2,400 divorces per day, 16,800 divorces per week, and 876,000 divorces per year. Sometimes it's our lifestyle that prevents us from controlling people's marriages and making it a better relationship, but we certainly want to make the situation less tragic for those who will be affected by it. The main cause of divorce is very simple: either the lack of romantic feelings or the deception of the husband or wife. Since divorce is a common and increasing situation in recent times, people have started considering it as a pathetic and normal thing. Whatever the causes, no one wins in divorce because it has negative consequences in many ways. Therefore, divorce mainly negatively affects the children, wife and husband of a family. One of the first visible negative effects of divorce concerns the children's school life. They are the ones who are greatly affected, because they might think that it is their fault because of their parents' divorce. In addition, they must learn very early on to overcome and manage their parents' divorce, which is very difficult because the child must have support to get through one of the most difficult situations of their life. For example, Sara, my cousin, experienced her parents' divorce at a very young age. Which led her to consider adjusting to a new life change. Sara went through a lot of pressure, depression, and gave up a lot of things she had when her parents were by her side. Her parents' divorce affected Sara's academic life, with her grades decreasing day by day, due to lack of concentration and abandonment of her life. After three...... middle of paper ...... marriage, they prefer to play the field and can rest for a few years of their life by entering and exiting unstable relationships. To conclude, negatively affecting the children's academic life, depressing for the wife, and the husband's regrets are often due to divorce. Overall, divorce has a huge negative effect on the people around it, especially the children in a family. In fact, as William Shatner writes, “divorce is probably as painful as death” (Brainy Quote, n.d.). Through this statement, Shatner explains to us that divorce is a massive mistake that leads to affecting the entire family. -divorce-statistics/ Shatner W.
