More than 2,000 years have passed since humans discovered music. Music is an art of sound over time that expresses ideas and emotions in meaningful forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony and color (Anonymous, 2014). It began with a simple striking of materials that produced sounds and later developed with the invention of musical instruments such as stringed instruments. The development of music has evolved from prehistoric times to the present day. The music is very popular among people, not only adults but also teenagers and children. Its popularity can be attributed to the components of music such as lyrics, genres, artists and especially the fact that it constitutes a large part of today's media. Researchers approached this topic due to the influence of music in current times and the stress experienced recently. In this article, researchers will provide the definition of music and stress before reliable sources and not just something that is self-explanatory. The different stressful situations and the effects of music on adolescents will also be discussed in this article. Additionally, researchers will present explanations of how music helps relieve stress. Until today, other researchers carry out different studies on music. One of them is music as medicine. Novotney (2013) states that researchers are still studying how music therapy can improve people's health outcomes. The majority of results only focus on how music influences health. Researchers have found that listening to and playing music increases the body's production of immunoglobulin A antibodies and natural killer cells — the cells that attack invading viruses and boost the effectiveness of the immune system.... . middle of paper ......
