With King's support in his argument, change would be inevitable. Although King admitted early on that he avoided responding to critical letters, he spent four days in jail working on a response. In the end, he even asks for forgiveness for anything he wrote that is an exaggeration or understatement of the truth. Clergymen are then forced to support the anti-segregation cause or jeopardize their position within the Church with their hypocritical positions. King's letter was powerful and precisely written, so much so that on May 10, 1963, the Birmingham Accord was announced and the city was desegregated. Just 28 days after his arrest, King arrived in Birmingham, "probably the most segregated city in the United States." »..”
