  • Essay / Field Experience Essay - 1341

Although my field experience did not take place in a classroom, I was still able to interpret my experiences and relate them to an environment potential class. For example, despite a stable schedule, the camp seemed to lack structure. From the moment I entered the facility, chaos reigned and the camp counselors demonstrated little control over the children. It became apparent that the leader was not considered an authority figure by the “campers.” To prevent this from happening to me in a classroom, boundaries and guidelines would initially be established and coordinated punishments would be applied. At summer camp, no one wants to be "the bad guy" because the kids are there to have fun and stay busy. Due to this fear and the gentle nature of the group leader, she had no concept of class.
