  • Essay / Quality and Quality Management in Quality System

In order to be globally competitive in today's world-class manufacturing environment, the company places greater emphasis on quality productivity. Quality has become the top priority for companies in manufacturing industries in order to compete with existing competition. To ensure that all these manufacturing industries meet product quality standards, the International Organization for Standardization created the ISO 9000 standard in 1987 to define, establish and maintain an effective quality assurance system for manufacturing industries. Quality experts have made a significant impact on the world through their contributions. to improve not only businesses, but all organizations, including state and national governments, military organizations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and many other organizations. They are; Dr. W. Edwards Deming, Dr. Joseph Duran, Phillip Crosby, Arman V. Feiganbaum, Dr. H. James Harrington, Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa, Dr. Walter A. Shewart, Shigeo Shingo, Frederick Taylor, and Dr. Genichi Taguchi. Among these experts, Dr. Deming, Phillip Crosby and Dr. Duran have been carrying the message of quality for over thirty years. Deming holds a doctorate in physics, but is an experienced statistician. He is best known for leading Japanese companies on the path that made them leaders in quality and productivity around the world. Deming takes a systems and leadership approach to quality. Concepts related to his approach include 1) “Deep Knowledge System”, 2) “Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle”, 3) “Prevention through Process Improvement”, 4) “Reaction in chain for quality improvement", 5) "Common cause and special cause variation", 6) the "14 points" and 7) the "Deadly and dreadful...... middle of paper.. .... more important than visible costs. For goal setting, Crosby emphasizes that intermediate goals should also be set to help organizations focus their efforts on becoming “defect-free.” On the other hand, Deming supports the continuous reduction of process variations in order to improve quality. Complying with specifications is not enough, but it ensures the status quo. Regarding supplier relationships, Crosby and Juran take a more conservative view and simply support reducing the number of suppliers. They consider it important to have different suppliers for the same product when it is critical. Therefore, the company will not suffer from strikes and accidents caused by suppliers. On the other hand, Deming recognizes the possibilities of strikes and accidents and therefore admits that customers can receive products and services from alternative suppliers..
