When an individual or group of individuals feels that the only thing that really matters is the end result, then that will be their only goal. An example could be found by looking at the Girl Scouts. One of the most visible functions of the Girl Scouts organization is its annual cookie sale. If two girls from the same neighborhood were to follow the path that society has laid out for them, they would end up fighting for rights on certain streets, forcing them both to take orders in reduced numbers. If the girls had worked together, they both could have done very well. A secondary example would be a scandal that arose when nearly a dozen teachers in the Atlanta, Georgia public education system were found to have cheated on their students' standardized tests. Teachers were under pressure to produce high scores, and when they failed to achieve this goal fairly, they turned instead to counterfeiting and deception. Neil deGrasse Tyson once said, “When students [sic] cheat on exams, it's because our school system [sic] values grades more than students [sic] value learning” (deGrasse Tyson). Although Mr. Tyson is referring to students, the same could be said about teachers and test scores. Education is not just about objectively reviewing retained material, but when the focus is only on the best, only objective data can meet this need. Students who cheat and teachers who falsify exam results, however, are not the only victims of this societal view. Society must find a healthier standard for judging others than by mere end
