    Advances in Animation and Their Effects on Modern Cinema Animation has been a huge contributor to today's media when it comes to film programming and televisions. For decades, using a series of images to create the illusion of movement became a billion-dollar entertainment industry. Animated films are in a completely different category and, as simple as they may seem, require a sufficient amount of technique as well as technology. Even live-action films use some form of animation in order to create worlds that would never have been possible without the technology. This form of entertainment has shaped the standards for what people expect to see in films in the 21st century. Animation, in any form, occupies an important place in people's lives and it has become clear that recent advancements have led to a whole new level of animation. There has, however, been conflict regarding this form of media as to whether traditional animated films, whether stop motion or hand-drawn images, are becoming obsolete since the advent of CGI (computer generated imagery). Animation fans from all walks of life have divided themselves based on what they believe to be the best form of animation. The debate mainly focuses on whether or not these new advancements actually benefit the animation industry and whether or not traditional animation, in films, such as Disney's Treasure Planet, is being neglected due to films that use computers as their primary support. Arguably GCI brings realism to animated films, but does that completely exclude what hand-drawn films have been doing for decades.
