Achieving Your Childhood Dreams was a speech given by Randy Pausch, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University. Pausch, who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, decided to give his very last lecture as part of the Journeys Lecture Series at Carnegie Mellon University on childhood dreams. Childhood dreams are something that everyone has, but not everyone achieves them. Rausch takes us through some of his childhood dreams, those he fulfilled and others he didn't. He went on to describe how achieving some of his childhood dreams inspired him to strive to fulfill the childhood dreams of others. He ends by revealing that his last lecture was not only about childhood dreams but about how to live your life. He also reveals that the lecture was not intended for the public but for his children. He left his final lecture as a guide for his children on how to navigate life. Pausch's final lecture was very effective in that he inspired the audience, relayed the message they wanted and kept the audience engaged by appealing to the seven elements of communication which include self, others, purpose, context, content, structure and expression. .Pausch's presentation was extremely inspiring; it demonstrated that no matter how big your dreams are, they can be achieved if you put your mind to it and work hard to achieve it. One of Pausch's childhood dreams was to become a Disney Imagineer. When the opportunity presented itself for him to make his dream a reality, he seized the opportunity. He was willing to take a six-month leave of absence without pay in order to realize his dream of becoming a Disney Imagineer. The last part of his speech involved wanting to help others achieve their dreams and inspiring the audience through his dreams, accomplishments and passion for helping others. He concluded the speech on a more serious note by devoting the entire speech to his children. Pausch's expression was key to the effectiveness with which he conveyed his message. There was not a person in the audience who was not inspired by both Dr. Randy Pausch's story and his message. He used his life and the experiences he had throughout his life to convey a message. Instead of just trying to teach the audience what he wanted them to know, he took us on a journey through the ups and downs of his life and tied it all into his purpose for speaking. His message was to inspire people to live an honorable and honest life, and in doing so you will achieve your goals. He encouraged people to try to help others achieve their goals once they have achieved their goals..
