Taste and Other Tales by Roald DahlThis is a collection of short stories by Roald Dahl. I chose to talk about my three favorites. The first is taste. It's about two men who both claim to be good wine connoisseurs and who have an old habit of betting on who knows what wine is served. On this occasion their stakes got out of hand and one bet two houses and the other bet his own daughter. What they don't know is that one of them already went to check the label on the wine bottle and, sure enough, he won the bet. One of the servants noticed this and the cheating was revealed. The second is called The Leg of Lamb. It tells us about a married couple where the man is a police officer and the woman is a loving housewife. One evening, when he comes home from work, he behaves very strangely and later he tells her that he wants a divorce because he is having an affair with another woman. The woman is shocked and pretends not to have listened. She goes down to the basement to get some food for dinner and she picks up a leg of lamb. Eventually, she hits her husband over the head with the frozen leg of lamb, and when the police arrive to investigate the murder, she offers them the lamb for dinner. The third is Birth and Destiny. It is a simple short story about a woman who gives birth to her fourth child. The other three died at a young age, and she is very afraid that this one will suffer the same fate. It later emerges that the newborn is no less than Adolf Hitler. There is one thing in common with all the stories in this collection. They all have a twisted tail. We can also notice that many characters are ordinary and respectable on the surface, but many of them have a surprisingly dark and cruel side to their personality. In Taste, a harmless guessing game between two wine lovers suddenly turns deadly serious. At first it's just a pleasant dinner, but suddenly it turns into an awkward situation for all parties. The main characters seem very likeable, but we quickly see that when it comes to betting, everything else is left aside..
