Oedipal love is adoration, idealization, sexual possession and acquisition. A child who grows up realizes that there is love between his two parents. Freud believed that the child internalized the actual parental values he had consciously experienced. Unable to explain the superego's unusual harshness and instinctive nature, he believed it might also contain elements from grandparents.
