  • Essay / Buckeye Lake Persuasive Essay - 1275

Algae growths in the lake feed on phosphorus primarily caused by fertilizer runoff from local farms and residences. Microcystin, a toxin that causes liver problems, is produced by the growths which have caused major health problems for wildlife and lake users. It is our moral obligation to clean up this mess, otherwise it will continue to harm the lake's wildlife and environment, as we are the only ones responsible. Organizations such as the Ohio EPA and Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow have taken notice of Buckeye Lake's pollution and are developing plans to restore the lake to its former glory. Our plan is to provide a short-term solution for the lake via the dredging process, while a much larger, permanent solution is put in place.
