  • Essay / "Silence Due to Fear" - 1572

The reason people of color remain silent when it comes to racism is because they are kept in a state of fear by white people. C This is a situation that most people of color and lower class people have to go through normal channels. Since my family immigrated to this country from Mexico, we have found ourselves in situations that have kept us silent. because of fear of deportation. I have seen many immigrant families who were exploited because of their fear of being sent back to their home countries, including my own grandfather. and my uncles were exploited in their work for years They worked in the vineyards of Sonoma county and had to work around three years from morning until dusk They were only paid for the amount of grapes harvested. not for the amount of work they were doing At the time, they were undocumented and afraid of what would happen if they complained or quit their jobs. Because many immigrants do not speak English or feel like they are not fluent in English, they do not speak out when they see or experience racism or discrimination around them. They remain silent because they feel that if they speak out, their safety could be compromised. We have the impression that white people or their bosses will call the police to deport us, for speaking out, and that immigration will come after us. The fear of being separated from our families is the greatest fear of immigrants. This fear comes from the bad experiences of immigrants, which spark fear in the undocumented Latino community. Once our community becomes afraid, that fear then manifests itself in silence. The people in power, the white business leaders, want to oppress marginalized communities in order to exploit them to develop fear middle of paper.... ..physical thinker before he knew what that meant. We need to understand why people have this silence, if we want to know how to solve the problem. People's silence is due to fear of the violence that lower class people have suffered. Silence comes from the way people are raised, this includes the way their parents raise them, and the kind of friends they have, the school and the teacher they have. People from the lower classes are always told to shut up and not speak out because it's wrong, but who is it really wrong for? The upper elites don't want people to ask questions because they would start to question their reality. It is the job of those who know what is really going on to teach new students and older blind people about the reality of the world. By knowing their oppression, they will want to break their silence and create change..
