Invasive SpeciesInvasive species are non-native organisms that harm their new ecosystem, causing adverse effects on both nature and human civilization. All types of animals and plants, as well as their eggs and seeds, can become invasive species if they are introduced into an ecosystem to which they do not belong. Invasive species come from any part of the world and pose a threat once introduced into an environment in which they do not naturally live. For example, an Oregon fish may be accidentally transported to a North Carolina river, thrive in its new environment, and destroy the river's natural food web. Invasive species can easily reproduce in their new ecosystem and have an advantage over native species. The rapid and unrestricted reproduction of invasive species leads to the destruction of native species and their balance. Invasive species not only harm nature and the ecosystem, but also cause damage to human health and the economy (National Wildlife Foundation, 2014). Invasive species spread into other ecosystems, primarily due to human actions, such as travel and transportation of goods. One of these methods is to use ships and boats, as aquatic animals and plants like fish and algae can accidentally end up in shipping. Additionally, rodents and other small animals may also be found on board ships. Another action that results in the presence of invasive species is the harvesting and shipping of lumber. Insects and other small pests that make their home in trees can find their way into an environment once the wood is transported. Finally, another common way that invasive species enter other ecosystems is through human domestic habits. For example, humans keep pets and potted plants in their homes. With the help of the humane society, invasive species such as Asian carp, West Nile virus, and water hyacinth can be reduced or even eliminated in the future.
