I have learned through my research that a nurse must be compassionate, demonstrate respect, dignity and always put the patient first. I believe I have these skills to become a good nurse. I have extensive experience in the care field, working night and day. This made me realize that to progress in this field, I would need to obtain a nursing degree. I enjoy every shift because it is always different as I find the opportunity to learn new skills. I assist with personal care, assist with feeding, repositioning and also provide emotional support and companionship. I also encourage and assist residents to pursue their hobbies, ensuring call bells and other goods are within easy reach. This experience gave me a lot of information about the nursing profession, although it is difficult, but very rewarding. As teamwork is important in the healthcare field, I liaise with other multidisciplinary teams, agency staff and attend handovers at the start of each shift to ensure to be fully aware of the individual care plan for the day. I have been trained in patient nutrition, medication administration, health and safety, food hygiene, fire safety and infection control. I know that the nursing profession can be very demanding and challenging, but with my experience and skills gained from working in customer service at the airport, meeting people from different backgrounds, working within deadlines , dealing with complaints and containing emotions prepared me to embark on this profession. Therefore, as I can provide care to people of different races and religions, I believe in equality and diversity. I am also a good listener, able to multitask, cheerful, quick to make decisions while remaining patient. I am a mother and I also keep friends. I help with school shopping, homework and managing the children's emotions. Currently, I am gainfully employed as an optical assistant in a primary eye practice, where I handle patient pre-screening and administrative work. Keep in mind: this is just a sample.
