Essay / Critical analysis of Schulman's article “Gay Marriage...
Marriage, for years, has been argued that rights are strictly reserved between a man and a woman. Both sexes are assumed to marry a person of the opposite sex. But what would happen if a person wanted to marry someone of the same sex? Why is this debate so heated among individuals? Is religion a large structural basis by which members of society are guided? Or do people not understand that marriage is a union between two individuals in love? No matter what, there will always be someone who says that same-sex marriage is “bad.” Sam Schulman argues that same-sex marriage is about the duties or roles that these couples assume that would be different from those of heterosexual couples. In his article Gay Marriage -- and Marriage, the author directs his argument towards those who are "passionately and instinctively opposed to the idea of same-sex marriage" (Schulman, 2003). Schulman blames the legalization of same-sex marriage as the cause of the eventual authorization of same-sex marriage. incest. However, this is to say that if marijuana were legalized, it would lead to the acceptance of cocaine. Even when homosexuals gain their legal rights, currently granted only to heterosexual married couples; it will not give rise to the legalization of incestuous relationships and incestuous marriages. Legalizing same-sex marriage will pose no threat to the structure of society. Society is created with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. Previously, when certain laws discriminated against others, such as the Women's Suffrage Act, those laws were changed. Changing the country's traditions does not mean that it will lead to the legalization of other extreme issues. Every ...... middle of paper ...... and they deserve equal treatment and protection under the law. In conclusion, his article is very ineffective due to his illogical arguments. Although many of his assumptions can be easily accepted by the public, his attempt to reason with others about his approach is misguided. Although his goal of giving others the same beliefs may be effective, it still lacks persuasion. Schulman's argument could be strengthened if he removed statements regarding female sexuality in marriage as well as contraceptives. Finally, it should actually discuss the views of those who support same-sex marriage, not just the views of those who oppose it.
