Claims adjusters play a very important role in the insurance field. If a loss or disaster occurs, insurance adjusters must immediately review the claim and determine how much the insurance company should pay. An insurance claims adjuster is a very flexible job with hours that vary daily and few qualifications and requirements. This is very interesting and diverse work since no complaint is identical to another. People buy insurance policies to protect themselves and their property in the event of a catastrophic loss. In the event of a disaster or disaster, the person holding the insurance policy will file a claim. The person submitting the claim is called a claimant and a claim is essentially asking the insurance company to reimburse them for their loss. An adjuster works with the claims that people file in these situations (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1). A claims adjuster generally works in property and casualty insurance companies. A claims adjuster works both in an office and in the field and their work weeks vary greatly from one another depending on the number of claims filed that week (Kolakowski 1). Although the types of claims they handle vary, the majority involve property damage, liability, and personal injury. A claims adjuster primarily investigates the claim, negotiates settlements, and authorizes payments made to the claimant. Their goal is to determine whether the plaintiff's insurance policy covers the loss and, if so, how much money should be paid to the plaintiff for that loss. When a claim is filed, it is the responsibility of the adjuster to plan and schedule the work necessary to process that claim (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1).
