Western cultures place great importance on social justice, the idea that all people deserve equal rights in all areas. Recent political advances lead many Westerners to believe that humanity as a whole is making drastic progress toward a socially just world. But in reality, much of Western society is sheltered from the brutal realities of the world. Consider these facts: more than 1,600 children die every day around the world due to lack of access to clean water, an eighth of the world's population is hungry, and 67 million young children are out of school (World Vision, Clean Water, 2014, paragraph 1; World Vision, Food and Agriculture, 2014, paragraph 1 Thousands of organizations have been founded around the world to promote the cause of true social justice, social justice that would end hunger; , lack of education and water problems World Vision has been one of the most renowned international social justice organizations Since evangelist Rob Pierce met a Chinese orphan in 1947, World Vision has grown. from a simple child sponsorship ministry to an international organization that promotes Articles 25 and 26 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights While on a mission trip to China, Evangelist Rob Pierce met. a teacher who introduced him to an abandoned child (World Vision, Our History, 2014, para. 1). The teacher explained that she was unable to care for the child. Confused as to how he could help, Bob Pierce took out his wallet and gave his last five dollars to provide for the little girl.
