Introduction and justificationDV8: Homosexuality in the dead dreams of monochrome men and being honest with youThroughout this thesis, I will focus my work on two of DV8's performances; Dead Dreams of Monochrome Men which is loosely based on the story of serial killer Dennis Nilsen and To Be Straight With You which is based on the prejudices that gay and lesbian individuals face every day by society, whether through religion, race or government. in theater reviews and books such as Parallellines: Media Representations of Dance by Stephanie Jordan and Dave Allen and The Male Dancer: Bodies, Spectacle, Sexualities by Ramsay Burt. I will learn about the history of homosexuality in theater and how DV8 defied the law by producing shows with gay themes, when it was illegal to promote such themes in the UK in the 80s and early 90s. I will also conduct a questionnaire. that I will ask my classmates to answer for me. The questionnaire will consist of four questions relating to the physical theater company DV8 and the themes of homosexuality in their representation. The purpose of this questionnaire is to find out people's honest but anonymized opinions on homosexuality as a whole and on homosexuality in theater. Is there any prejudice against it or do they accept it? By reading books and reviews about the two stated representations, I will also be able to find out people's personal opinions on this topic. By examining the history of homosexuality in theater and Section 28 in particular when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, we will be able to look back at how society has changed its views on the LGBT community.
