Essay / World Trade Center Explosion - 1286
Lessons from the 1993 WTC Explosion for Developing a Business Continuity PlanIntroductionEvery incident, of whatever nature, that occurs to a person, a company or a country leaves an impact of its kind. The most important thing is the lessons that the actors concerned learn from this incident. Bombings are often the result of terrorist attacks and the lessons or courses of action that arise from any successful terrorist attack are not something that intelligent minds can point out (Knowles, 2003). One of the main targets of these bombings and similar events is the business world. Critical analysis of explosions and bombings is very important for both security agencies and businesses. This is mainly because businesses only thrive in a secure environment and therefore security is a priority for any business environment. The World Trade Center (WTC) explosion in 1993 highlighted critical security issues that any business development plan must consider. However, before exploring these questions, it is important to recap how the incident unfolded.Summary of the 1993 WTC ExplosionIn 1993, the WTC was a twin tower and was the second largest building in the UNITED STATES. Its base covered 16 acres of land and had a seven-story basement. It was the headquarters of many companies. All of these features add up to qualify the complex as an ideal target for a terrorist attack that actually occurred, but not on the scale expected by the terrorists. On February 23, 1993, terrorists pulled up in a van in the northern basements. tour (Hiles, 2007). Inside the van was a 1,200-pound bomb capable of toppling the entire north tower of the WTC onto the south tower (Hiles, 2007). This middle of paper...... includes data security and other systems related to information data. It is for this reason that business continuity development plans today include battery backups powered by battery backups to provide power in case other sources are not operational. Conclusion Although the 1993 WTC attack did not happen as the terrorists had predicted, it was an eye-opener about the loopholes that were available to terrorists and other criminals. The attacks exposed the weaknesses of such a complex security service. The business world has learned incredible lessons that are used for new developments or business continuity after such incidents. Training employees, improving security and installing backup systems at different sites are all measures that help companies continue operations after terrorist attacks or plan new ventures..
