  • Essay / History of the injection molding industry - 2077

FOAM MOLDING:Presentation:Definition: “Any polymer process resulting in a partially or fully foamed product. » (Scientific Dictionary) Foam casting is a manufacturing process that creates parts of a product and artifact from foam. The foam molding process involves mixing a foaming agent and a base resin into a molten polymer, creating a mixture that will be injected into a mold, which will solidify and become a part or object. History: In 1872 American inventors John Wesley Hyatt and his brother Isaiah Hyatt patented the very first injection molding machine. The machine was relatively simple compared to modern technology. The way the machine worked was like a large hypodermic needle, it was used as a piston-like device to inject plastic through a heated cylinder into a mold. The machine could produce everyday objects such as buttons and collar stays. The industry grew slowly over the years and expanded dramatically in the 1940s, during the post-World War II economic expansion, which created a massive demand for mass-produced products and cheap. Later, American inventor James Watson Hendry created the first screw injection machine. in 1946, with screw injection; the machine was much more precise in terms of injection speed and also helped improve the quality of the items produced. The advantage of this machine was also the fact that the materials could be mixed before injection, making the task easier. Finally, in the 1970s, James Watson Hendry developed the first gas-assisted injection molding process (Figure 1), this new invention allowed the production of more complex products such as hollow objects that cooled quickly. This process has greatly improved the f...... middle of paper ......The UK's leading plastics trade association. http://www.bpf.co.uk/Plastipedia/Processes/Structural_Foam.aspxInjection molding 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injection_moldinghttp://polycel.com/why.html x http:// thesciencedictionary.org/foam-moulding/Structural Foam Molding 2014 https://www.efunda.com/processes/plastic_molding/molding_structuralfoam.cfmInjection Molding 2014 https://www.efunda.com/processes/plastic_molding/molding_injection.cfm Uniloy Milacron Structural Foam Molding Guide http://www.uniloyna.com/images/pdf/SFmolding_guide.pdf Port erie plastics 2013 http://www.porterie.com/plastic-processing-structural-foam-blow-molding -extrusion.html Foam Injection molding flexibly Sluzer Chemtech ltd Markus Scheuber 20042014 Solid Concepts Inchttp://www.solidconcepts.com/resources/design-guidelines/injection-molding-design-guidelines/
