Essay / Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm . Many famous African Americans, from musicians to authors, leaders and artists, were born from the influence of this period. Two strong leaders of this era were Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Martin Luther King Jr. had a greater impact on the people than Malcolm of the effect of his death on the population. Martin Luther King Jr.'s belief was that people of all colors, including blacks and whites, could live in eternal peace and equality. King believed that “an unjust law is no law at all” (Dinar, par. 12). He was all for equal rights and he wanted it as soon as possible. “We have been waiting for our constitutional and God-given rights for over 340 years. The nations of Asia and Africa are moving at jet speed toward political independence, but we continue to move at a cart's pace to get a cup of coffee at a lunch counter. Dinar, para. 12). King believed that there was a great need for African Americans in the United States to enjoy their civil and equal rights. Malcolm X's beliefs completely contradicted those of King. Malcolm In fact, he declared "a fool's [nonviolence] philosophy...There is no philosophy more suited to the white man's tactic of keeping his foot on the neck of the black man” (Cone, par. 5). Malcolm However, Martin Luther King Jr. was a better speaker than Malcolm X.Works CitedAlvah, Donna. “Civil Rights Movement.” Dictionary of American History. Ed. Stanley I. Kutler. 3rd ed. Flight. 2.
