    Population growthPopulation growth is now becoming a major problem in our country and in the world. The reason this problem has become so urgent is that our growing population requires a growing economy and has growing needs. As our population grows, so do the needs of the population. A very large population becomes a problem when there is not enough space to live, nor enough food and supplies to live. We can predict population size in the future by looking at the recent past. This may give us some good ideas about what we will need to do to welcome everyone in the United States and the world, or start imposing restrictions on the birth of babies, like our compatriot China. In this activity we were given the populations of the United States and the world from 1950 to 1990. We used the calculator to obtain two different equations, one a linear regression and an exponential regression. These models were compared to see which fit the data best.
