  • Essay / The experiences and influences in my life that have shaped me

On the outside, I may appear like a normal teenager, but even though I am a relatively normal girl, I am much more. The experiences and influences in my life have made me who I am today. I spend at least ninety percent of my free time watching Netflix and scrolling through social media. I enjoy socializing with my friends and cheering at basketball games. I'm also interested in photography and knitting, but my procrastination and laziness usually get the best of me. You'd think I'm using all my childhood bumps, bruises, and breaks as an excuse for my laziness, but that's just because I'm lazy by nature because I've overcome most of my illnesses and illnesses. I broke my running track and self-diagnosed myself with nerve damage in my toe after dropping a drawer on it when I was eight. Even before I could get injured, I had a stroke and emerged a survivor with no known side effects. My brain likes me to be stressed and anxious and it's something I'm constantly battling. The class that contributed the most to my stress by far was Algebra II, but my favorite class that I took was Photography and could possibly be a career option in my future. Say no to plagiarism. This experience shaped my fear of water that no longer allows me to even exist in a pool of water without a panic attack. Another of my fears, more irrational, is the fear that cats will scratch my eyes. I don't really have an explanation for this, but one thing is for sure, I will NOT become a crazy cat person when I'm older. However, crazy dog girl is always a possibility. I have lived in Belgium for three full years and I am starting my fourth and last. It's nice to be able to start and finish high school since that consistency is rare in the military lifestyle. The first week of freshman year was a bit exhausting and lonely since I had only met one girl before starting school and was a bit too shy to talk to anyone. It was in gym class, on the third day of school, that I met my best friend. Fall was new that day and, just like me, there was no one to talk or have lunch with. We played basketball together and from then on we almost never left each other's side. Autumn is very special because she's one of only three people I've managed to stay in contact with after moving, which I struggle with. Starting my senior year without her is a bit of an adjustment, but I'm not letting anything stop me from achieving the end goal of graduation. I hope to follow in my sister and father's footsteps because my dream school would be Penn State, but it is. it's still a question of whether I can even be accepted, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that. I also plan to apply to a handful of schools in Florida and others in Washington, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Being part of a military family comes with the almost impossible question that follows you everywhere: “where are you from.” Indeed, that's a good question and I had a lot of trouble formulating the answer, but I ultimately settled on State College, Pennsylvania. State College, home to Penn State, has found a place in my heart where I live, in 2017-2018.
