When you hear the word block, you usually think of something obstructing your path or something that makes it difficult to execute a movement. But that's just one definition of the block. Blocking can also have a positive meaning. A block can also be used as a source of solid foundation. It is for this reason that I chose to use blocks or more specifically building blocks to display my strengths as a learner, relational, concentration, strategy and responsibility as the foundations of the development of my plan to achieve relational, academic and professional success. Learners are very interested in acquiring knowledge or having new experiences. Although learners are enthusiastic about learning new skills and information, they do not seek to become experts at any particular task. The thrill of getting new information is enough to keep them motivated. I know that going to graduate school will provide me with the knowledge and skills I am looking for and help me become more marketable by building confidence and allowing me to apply what I have learned. Learner strengths are a blend of talent, skills, competencies and knowledge. As a learner, I will use a blend of my other strengths to build relational, academic, and professional success. I have personal relationships with all kinds of people, including family, friends, co-workers, classmates, and teachers. My strength as a learner will play a role in my daily interactions with the people in my life. By using my strength as a learner, I can understand what people may feel, think and react in a certain way. This strength will help me immensely as I pursue a career in criminal justice. The next strength I strive to develop is responsibility. Responsibility is taking charge and committing to achieving a goal. Using my sense of responsibility will help me stay on track and achieve my goals. Being accountable will help me choose a goal, commit to it, make decisions, create a system, apply it, follow through, and achieve my ultimate goal of success. The strength of responsibility can also be used to help develop relationships. Being a responsible person will help me develop relationships by building trust, as I will be known for committing and completing the tasks I promise. For this reason, my friends, teachers and employers will believe in me, know that I am a reliable person and will always complete tasks, which will make me an asset to any team. Focus means taking advantage of an opportunity. In order to stay focused, I will need to find a quiet place, focus on the task, use resources, take notes, and develop a system for academic success. It is important to develop a system because a system will ensure that I stay on task. This will also help me recognize when a developed system is not working and make appropriate adjustments to get the task back on track. As a focused person, I can also use my strength to help others, whether in a personal or professional setting, learn to stay on task by setting achievable deadlines to help them keep tasks on track..
