Essay / The Yippies Summary: 1968 Democratic National Convention
The Vietnam War divided both government officials and the public. The Yippies and the National Mobilization Committee expressed many people's growing frustrations with the war. The disagreements between the candidates demonstrated the uncertainty of the times. The brutality of the police and the National Guard showed how the government was willing to go to horrific lengths to try to silence opposing views. One thing was clear: change was needed. Fortunately, the opposition would bring positive changes that would soon come to fruition.
