    It is estimated that one in sixty-eight children will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (CDC, 2014). In schools across the country, these students struggle in their classroom environments due to deficits in three areas: ; communication skills, social skills, and repetitive behaviors or interests (Marder & Fraser, 2012). Implementing the use of classroom technology such as iPad, iPod, Android tablets, e-readers, and computers is beneficial for students with autism spectrum disorder. This can improve communication skills, help make their classroom experience more enjoyable and give them the best chance of success. One of the important benefits of implementing the use of technology in the classroom for students with autism spectrum disorder is that the technology gives the student the opportunity to interact with the world in a way that they might not be able to do otherwise. Speech delays are a major feature of autism spectrum disorders. These delays can be minor or severe when the child is nonverbal. Using technology can help a student develop communication skills. Apps that use gestures, pictures, and other symbols offer children with limited verbal skills an alternative way to communicate and interact with their environment. For children who express themselves verbally, there is also a significant benefit to using technology. In a study funded by Autism Speaks, it was found that using a program to generate speech on an Android device or iPad helped children develop more spoken words than any other intervention (Brasher, 2013) .
