Philosophy Discourse 洪颖琳Traditional Chinese medicine is one of the oldest medical systems in the world. It generally addresses how and what causes disease in a particular patient, then treats the patient, not the disease, unlike Western scientific medicine which generally treats a specific disease. Chinese medicine does not believe that bacteria and viruses are the cause of illness. Instead, he talks about the influences that cause “disharmony” between Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang is basically a concept based on the balance between good and evil. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that health is an ongoing process in your body aimed at maintaining balance and harmony in the flow of Qi. Qi is a type of life force or life energy that traditional Chinese practitioners believe flows through the body through systems of pathways called meridians. The Chinese believe that if we can control the Qi inside our body, we can treat any disease.
