In 1831, the people and society of the United States did not believe in equality. On the one hand, they treated the Indians as a foreign people, while on the other, they considered the black slaves as their property. It was during Tocqueville's visit that this scenario changed. He saw a society where class did not seem to matter and all classes were treated the same. He mentions in his work that he saw people of all classes, busy planning local projects, choosing representatives and gathering to criticize their leaders.
