The Liver The liver is a vital organ of the body that does many things to keep the body functioning properly. The most important functions of the liver are: • Storing vitamins, sugar and iron to help provide energy to your body • Controlling the production and elimination of cholesterol • Eliminating waste • Medicines and other toxic substances blood • Produces clotting factor to prevent excessive bleeding after injuries • It removes bacteria from the bloodstream and produces immune factors • And is most commonly known to release bile which aids in the digestion of food and absorbs important nutrients, (Anon., nd) Liver Products: (Figure 1: Anon., nd) Bile production serves two main functions: Emulsification or lipids - bile causes fat globules to break down or emulsify into tiny droplets, which increases the surface area of the fat, making it digestible by lipases which cannot access the interior of lipids. droplets. Solubilization and transport of lipids (in an aqueous medium): the acids contained in bile are lipid transporters and are capable of making lipids more soluble by forming micelles (causing the particles to lose their structure in this case..... . middle of paper ...... injury/injury The pancreas is equally important because it produces many hormones which are all important for keeping the body normal and healthy. insulin and glucagon, both of which help maintain the body's blood sugar levels 09 2015].Figure 1: Anon., nd [Online]Available at: https://www.patientresource.com/userfiles/image/.
