The film “Social Network” talks about the ideas and development behind the creation of the very popular social networking site “Facebook”. Mark Zuckerberg is the main character of the film and also the real creator of Facebook. There are many instances where various components of interpersonal communication are used throughout this film. For example, early in the film, Zuckerberg is talking to his girlfriend Erika about school, which appears to be a relationship of both circumstance and choice, but he uses a bit of sarcasm and conversational narcissism when he talk with her. His girlfriend in return uses the direct termination, justification strategy, telling Zuckerberg, "We're not dating anymore, I'm sorry." She continues with other statements about why she doesn't want to be with him anymore. Zuckerberg, being a computer genius, returns to his dorm and starts blogging about his now ex-girlfriend and insults her. He then went to a website called "Kirkland House Face Book" and came up with the idea of comparing two photos of girls side by side and asking people to vote to see who they thought was "the most sexy.” He needed photos, so he hacked into several Face Book databases and downloaded their profiles. Needless to say, the male students loved the idea and the female students hated it, leading to a variable of interpersonal communication, sex, and gender. According to Beebe, Beebe, and Redmond (2011), gender refers to the psychological and emotional characteristics that cause people to assume masculine, feminine, or androgynous (having a combination of feminine and masculine traits) roles. Eduardo Saverin ultimately received a settlement of more than $1.1 billion. The Winklevoss twins received more than $65 million out of court in 2008, against the “real” Mark Zuckerberg.
