The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)Healthcare services should be provided to all without discrimination of any kind. Healthcare professionals must ensure that when caring for patients, they act in accordance with medical laws. Agencies regulating the healthcare sector ensure that all healthcare professionals act in accordance with medical laws and that people have access to high-quality medical care. The creation of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was carried out in December 1989. It was established as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) . It was subsequently reauthorized on December 6, 1999, and is now called the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. It is a public health service agency under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Within the Agency, the Director is responsible for implementing the AHRQ Information Quality Guidelines. AHRQ is one of 12 agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and supports research initiatives in the health sector. To fulfill its mission, it conducts and supports health services research within AHRQ and in the following sectors: academic institutions; in health systems; in doctors' offices and hospitals. Weinstock (2009) states that the agency's research portfolio is very broad and addresses all aspects of the health care system. HHS strategies and objectives serve as a guide to Agency operations. The Agency fully supports HHS's strategic objectives. It ensures that families, seniors and millions of children receive high-quality health care. Federal grantees have the discretion to modify the scope and nature of funded projects beyond the initial outline of the funding proposal.
