Everything You Want to Know About ChocolateIntroductionThe reason why I decided to do my research paper on chocolate was so that I could learn more about this delicious treat. Chocolate is a combination of ground cocoa and sugar cubes in rich cocoa butter. This delicious full-fat cocoa butter melts at exactly 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, which is exactly our body temperature. This is the reason why when you bite into a solid piece of chocolate, it melts in your mouth within seconds. But first, chocolate doesn't start to be that delicious treat that we all love. To become the delicious treat we love, chocolate has to go through a process. All chocolate begins with a seed on the tropical Theobroma cocoa tree. The seeds of the cocoa tree don't taste like the candy we're used to eating. They are actually very bitter and need to be fermented to bring out the chocolate flavor. To ferment the chocolate, the beans and pulp must be removed from the pod and placed on banana leaves and covered with additional banana leaves, or placed on wooden crates. and covered. The hollowed out material should now be allowed to sit in the hot sun so that it can ferment. The beans and pulp are purple and turn brown during fermentation. Once the beans are fermented, they need to be dried. The drying process takes 10 to 20 days.EtymologyThe meaning of the word chocolate comes from the Spanish language. It is unclear how the word entered the Spanish language, but there seem to be many hypotheses as to how the word appeared. Many sources from the time of the Spanish conquest reveal that "cacahuatl" is the original word for the cold, bitter beverage drunk by the Aztecs. Sophie and Michael Coe (chocolate experts) of the time suggested...... middle of paper ......ch in a cupboard or pantry, but it should be wrapped in paper aluminum. Milk chocolate can be stored without spoiling for about six months, but dark chocolate can be stored for years. Conclusion I enjoyed my chocolate research because I learned a lot about my favorite treat. It was interesting to learn how chocolate starts as a seed and the process it goes through before a consumer can purchase it. The part I enjoyed the most was learning about the history of chocolate. I am happy that chocolate is no longer reserved for the elite and that everyone can enjoy this delicious treat.BibliographyElectronic source: http://enwikipedia.org/wiki/chocolateElectronic source: http://abcnews.go. com/blogs/lifestyle /foodJones, Carol (2003) From the Farm to You: ChocolateDineen, Jacqueline (1991) ChocolateBuckley, Jim (2013) Who was Milton Hershey?
