  • Essay / Pharaohs: Their Life as Royalty - 626

Gilded death masks, elaborate tombs filled with priceless objects, and jewelry crafted by the finest goldsmiths: all of this was created for Egypt's ancient rulers. From the beginning of Egyptian history, rulers were considered divine, even divine. (Meltzer 141). Egyptian pharaohs wore beautiful clothes, held many offices, and were famous for what they did. While there were many male pharaohs, there were few female rulers. The Egyptians believed in the afterlife; a place where people went after death. Along with this belief, the Egyptians believed that there were many steps to the afterlife. Pharaohs were the kings of the ancient world and had many responsibilities for maintaining the balance of Egypt. Pharaohs were the supreme rulers of ancient Egypt. The first pharaohs were believed to be gods and later pharaohs were descendants of gods. Keeping the gods happy meant a happy life for the Egyptians (Kennett 4). This was one of the reasons why people gave gifts to the pharaoh. It was one of the duties of the pharaohs to celebrate the gods and remind the people of their religion (Kennet 4). Fashion was very important to the Egyptians. The pharaohs wore kohl (black eyeliner) for fashion but also to protect themselves from the sun. Pharaohs often wore false beards and lots of jewelry. One of the most famous pharaohs was Tutankhamun. King Tut is probably the most famous because he inherited the throne at a very young age. Other famous pharaohs were Ramesses II and Thutmose III. Although there were many male pharaohs, the female pharaohs are probably the most famous. Women were first given power when they were the wives of the pharaohs (“The Female Pharaoh”). Nitocris was the first woman to rule. Almost nothing is known about her except that she ruled after middle of paper......and the afterlife to live forever in the next life. Pharaohs were the kings of the ancient world and had many duties to keep Egypt in balance. The lives of kings and queens were hard. They not only had to help Egypt, but also prepare for the afterlife. Works Cited Kennett, David. Pharaoh: life and beyond a God. New York: Walker &, 2008. PrintMeltzer, Milton.
