  • Essay / The Life of Astronauts - 1471

A person who lives and works in space is an astronaut. Astronauts must be prepared to undergo intense training and study to keep their jobs. It's a job like no other. “There is no other job in the world that will allow you to look down on your planet,” says astronaut Marsha Ivins (Dyson 14). Because most people have never been to space, they can only use pictures and videos to describe it. Astronauts, even though they look at the same thing, have a completely different vision. They are able to contemplate their own planet, their moon and their stars. It's incredible. The life of astronauts is adventurous but involves a lot of hard work as they must have specific body requirements, long periods of training and must be physically fit. Many specific requirements must be met before people can apply to become an astronaut. According to NASA, all individuals who choose to apply must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, biological sciences, physical sciences, or mathematics. Some degrees, although considered math or science, are not eligible. Three years of work related to this degree must follow to qualify (NASA 1). However, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, if a person had a master's degree, this would eliminate a year of related work. If a person had a doctorate, three years of related work would be eliminated, which is all that is required (NASA 1). Applicants must also have specific body requirements. This includes that the candidate's vision must be correctable to 20/20 and their blood pressure cannot exceed 140/90 while seated. Additionally, each position has different height requirements. Finally, all applicants must......work environment......include a lot of hard work. Astronauts have to train for a very long time due to the different roles they take on. They must be strong physically and mentally. There are many differences in lifestyles aboard the ISS and on Earth. In addition to the way they eat, drink and sleep, astronauts must adapt to prolonged separation from family or friends. Astronauts must have a strong desire to succeed in their work. Once they start going up, there's no going back. They also need to show great determination to succeed in their work. It takes a lot of determination to get up every day for ascan training. Finally, astronauts must demonstrate great dedication to succeed in their work. The job of an astronaut is very important and all astronauts should want to do what they do. They must work to be the best they can be.
