In ethics, the situation is reversed: we may disagree on ethical theories, but we all recognize unethical action when we witness it. This statement contrasts the two subjects and areas of knowledge of ethics and the arts. The statement also explores the realm of history and culture, as they can influence people's individualistic views and perceptions of a situation. People's individualistic views and perceptions may also draw on the emotions a person evokes regarding the job or situation. However, this can be contradicted by reason and by how we know that a situation is ethical or that a job is meritorious based on the general guidelines and standards set by society. So, in this essay, we will discuss the fields of ethics and the arts, through the WOKs of history and culture and the AOKs of emotion and reason. In the arts, there are general standards that are established to help determine whether a work has the level of excellence to be considered meritorious. These standards can include composition, technique, storytelling ability, culture, and many other aspects.
