Alas, Truman Capote, probably one of the greatest 20th century American writers of all time. Capote was a large part of the Southern Gothic literary movement. He didn't really write in a defined genre, he created his own, commonly called non-fiction fiction. His novels, short stories and plays are mostly recognized as literary classics. He is best known for his novel Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and In Cold Blood (1965). Many films and other television media have been produced based on Truman Capote's screenplays and stories. Truman had a difficult childhood, marked by divorce and numerous moves from one place to another. Capote discovered his writing ability around the age of eleven and honed it throughout his childhood. He has had a great professional career with much fame and is recognized for his writings. Truman Capote was born as Truman Streckfus Persons in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother was a 17-year-old small-town girl named Lillie Mae Faulk. His father was a salesman named Archulus Persons. Capote was largely neglected by his parents and was sent to live with his mother's relatives in Monroeville, Alabama, after his parents divorced in 1928. It was during this time that he dated and bonded Friendly with Harper Lee or Nelle Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, the character Dill was based on Truman Capote. Lee and Capote remained lifelong friends. In his book Other Voices, Other Rooms, he based the character Idabel on Harper Lee. Capote and Lee were complete opposites, she was a tomboy at heart and Truman was a short and somewhat feminine boy. Harper often jokingly teased him because he was often criticized by his peers for being a wimp. Later in life he... middle of paper ...... increased his dependence on alcohol and drugs. After a revocation of his license and a hallucinatory attack in 1980 which led to hospitalization. These seizures recurred and Comet discovered that his brain mass had decreased. Capote died in Los Angeles, California on August 5, 1984 at the age of 59. He died of liver disease complicated by phlebitis and multiple drug poisoning.
