The first of many was the idea of laissez-faire. This is where the government lets business owners do what they want. This would have caused a lot of problems because the prices of products would skyrocket and many people would not be able to afford the things they needed to survive. This policy could also help people get back things that the government took away from them. In the document entitled In Defense of Laissez-faire it is said: "thus, in our attempts to improve, by legislation, the conditions of the poor, we have not only multiplied their numbers, but reduced them to a state of previously unknown degradation. The government brought this about because “by our bad laws and our charitable works we have impoverished and almost ruined the country” (In Defense of Laissez-Faire). If this policy had been put in place, the government would have been limited, allowing companies to have the freedom to control the sector.
