  • Essay / Induction Trial - 725

Humanity has obtained a vast majority of its knowledge through the process of induction. Almost everything we know about ourselves, others, and the rest of the natural world can be traced to a method of induction. The scientific method is a sophisticated method of induction that increases the probability of validity of induced results. Although induction is not axiomatic, it allows us to form highly probable beliefs and survive in the natural world. First, the science and problem of induction will be discussed. Everything we know about the surrounding natural world is obtained through the process of induction. This activity designed to uncover information about the natural world we live in and discover the ways in which this information can be organized into meaningful patterns has been titled science. Science is a systematic entity that constructs and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the natural world. The process by which information is obtained is called the scientific method. The scientific method is the foundation of all science. If an investigation is to follow the scientific method, it must be based on empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. It uses results obtained through observations and/or experiments to make generalizations about other instances of what is being tested. Consider the theories of evolution and natural selection: all life on Earth has a common ancestor, but to produce a large amount of fluctuations in organisms, some organisms had to evolve into new species. These theories are established by generalization of instances. Scientific theories are just hypotheses. They are created so...... middle of paper ......g useless world. Humanity has little choice as to whether it can rely on induction, because induction is the only way to gain new knowledge and survive in the physical world. Induction allows us to create theories about things that would be impossible without it. Even though we cannot concretely know certain things, our beliefs tend to be extremely reliable. The scientific method allows us to believe with extremely high probability. We can believe that induction will not fail. We cannot know whether this will be demonstrative. We cannot know anything about the natural physical world unless it is induced. We are part of the physical natural world. This means that we must control everything about ourselves. Except for our own existence. Determining whether or not we have the ability to infer or induce our existence is essential to understanding the degree of certainty that induction plays in our existence.
