    This article discusses the unsatisfactory professional conduct displayed by the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the case study provided. There are four main points of conduct that need to be discussed. First, the lack of a proper assessment of the patient's condition. Second, the obvious lack of proper documentation recorded during and after the consultation. Third, the Medical Officer (MO) was never informed and no request was made for the doctor to examine the patient. Finally, the illegal dispensing of a prescription medication S11, namely Panadeine Forte, which the CNS gave to the client at the hospital and the sachet which she distributed to him for him to take home. The nurse did not “practice in a safe and competent manner” (2013, p. 2), “in accordance with the standards of the profession and the health system in general” (2013, p. 2), and she did not also did not practice her profession and did not behave like herself. in accordance with laws relevant to the profession and practice of nursing” (2013, p. 2). These are Statements 1, 2 and 3 consecutively of the Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia. Unsatisfactory professional conduct may be defined as any practice undertaken by a health care professional that is found to be significantly below the standards expected of such professional's training and experience or includes any violation of national law and/or any violation of the code of Professional Conduct for Nurses and Midwives in Australia (2013, p. 2) (Professional Standards) (Definition of unsatisfactory professional conduct and professional misconduct).
