    Deals With the DevilIn the books The Picture of Dorian Gray and Dr. Faustus, both protagonists are drawn into the world of evil, but by different forces. Both Dorian Gray and Dr. Faustus sell their souls to the devil. However, Dorian Gray unknowingly deals with the devil and Dr. Faustus conjures up the devil. After Dorian sells his soul, he becomes an immoral criminal and even resorts to murder. After Dr. Faustus sells his soul, he lives frivolously and entertains himself through pranks. So who is the baddest? An innocent young man corrupted by another's ideas? Or does a man who is bored with the world and looking for excitement call on the devil? Dorian Gray is clearly more evil, because even though he and Faustus have been corrupted by knowledge, Dorian destroys people's lives and commits crimes, while Faustus only does things for his own pleasure. The protagonists of these works are intellectuals. They read many books and have an immense amount of knowledge in many fields. Dr. Faustus knows everything about the material world and is not satisfied with it. Thus, he falls in love with the spiritual world. This is why he wants to sell his soul. His desire for knowledge prevails over his sensitivity. Dorian Gray read many books on areas that interested him such as art. These books did not corrupt him; he just had a thirst for knowledge.
