    Diversity, inequality and immigration are three words that bring to mind some of the recent political topics currently affecting the United States today. Throughout the nation's history, our society has experienced significant racial discrimination and injustice. This can be seen in our history textbooks in the Civil War, the civil rights movement, and more recently in the gay rights effort. The history of our country is built on all types of movements and wars. Different cultures came together and created diversity in this country. Adversity can be defined as the condition or instance of different elements or qualities. (Merriam-Webster Dictonary, 2013) Diversity includes quality; it brought America to where it is today. The history of inequality and racial injustice in our society is still visible. Good illustrations of this are the war, which bought freedom from slavery, the civil rights movement, which plotted for equality for all races, and, more recently, the gay rights movement, which fought for equal rights, regardless of your sexual orientation. The lack of equal treatment has been seen in forms ranging from racial disparities in wealth, poverty taxes, housing, education, and unemployment rates. Current gaps in housing and homeownership, health insurance, social mobility, unemployment status, but political representation can be felt. Some of these disparities have increased over time. These programs are general and those who receive these benefits, these programs are aimed at low-income families, there are no other issues of discrimination. The current state of prejudice, discrimination, and oppression in the United States appears to be on a downward slope.
