He respected the way the leader showed India instead of retaliating against Britain with violence but boycotting British goods and services. This made Dr. King realize that America needed to change. He later became a civil rights activist increasingly preaching equal rights. This allowed him to gain more supporters, black and white, working together for the same goal. Rosa Parks, one of these followers, decided not to give up her seat to a white man and was arrested. Amazingly, this courageous action acted as a blessing in disguise for Dr. King and his supporters. This allowed activists to boycott all buses, leading African Americans to carpool more often. Dr. King gradually gained more supporters, which led to more changes and victories for activists. On March 28, 1963, Dr. King marched in Washington DC and then read his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. This was a major event in the civil rights movement, demonstrating that equality for all is what must be achieved. On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. Dr. King may have been dead, but his legacy lives on
