Essay / My motivation for studying petroleum engineering
From a young age, I enjoyed participating in science at school. I delved deeper into this by studying them at an advanced level. I would like to study petroleum engineering specializing in reservoir engineering if possible. My interest in natural resources developed when I came across a detailed newspaper article about “Hubbert’s Peak”. I became fascinated with evaluating underground formation using sophisticated technologies, producing oil, and how drilling for such a widely available resource has become so difficult in recent years. It is a true engineering marvel to see companies drilling 18,000 feet deep into the sea to obtain a natural resource that in the past was readily available at 2,000 feet deep. I want to be part of a new era where engineers are constantly pushing the boundaries in an effort to be cleaner, more efficient, and extract value from depleting resources. Enrolling in my specified course is the natural step for me to further develop my interest and will lead me to my chosen career of working in the field of natural resources. I completed my 10th with 83% scores, 12th with 79% scores and am currently pursuing petroleum engineering from Chandigarh University, Punjab, India. Therefore, my experience in this university has been admirable both academically and in other events. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? Studying physics and mathematics allowed me to further develop my interests. For my semester project, I studied drilling fluid and its design for shale formation, which I enjoyed immensely. I am aware that drilling fluid plays an important role in drilling oil and gas wells. This is an area that was also discussed during my visit to the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, India, which is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the country. During my course, I participated in the writing of a review article on “Tight gas reservoir: an unconventional reservoir”, “Hydraulic fracturing in a tight reservoir and I learned that although tight reservoirs are extraordinarily impermeable, hard rock, which makes the underground formation extremely waterproof and are characterized by low porosity and permeability, they contain enormous reserves of hydrocarbons. I had also published a review article on “Techniques used for the production of bio-ethanol. ". Thus, this led me to broaden my experimental horizons into more in-depth research. I also participated in the “Youth Mock Parliament” organized by the Department of Management Studies, Chandigarh University, which helped me a lot to adapt and speak out in the crowd. So far I have participated in “SPE FEST 2K15” event organized by Pandit Deandayal Petroleum University and “CRUST 2017” organized by UPES AAPG student section organized at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun . I also participated in a project exhibition on “Advancement of Petroleum Industry” during Engineers Day organized by Chandigarh University and bagged 1st position. Additionally, I won 2nd place in the Ice Challenge competition, which used waste materials. In turn, this made me aware of how,.
