Rocky is a small-time local heavyweight boxer who now works as muscle for Gazzo, a local mobster. He goes to a pet store to get some pet supplies, where he takes a liking to the shopkeeper, Adrian. The two start dating. In a series of events following his opponent's withdrawal from the title fight, Apollo Creed, the undefeated heavyweight boxing champion, unexpectedly selects Rocky to be his next suitor. After learning this, his old gym trainer Mickey comes to meet Rocky and offers him help but ends up returning in despair after a heated conversation in which Rocky accuses Mickey of not helping him when he needed it the most and now to come when he sees an opportunity. Rocky later accepts his help and begins training. Rocky, who until now had no training equipment, used the meat carcasses hung on the hooks for punching, in a butcher shop owned by Adrian's brother Paulie. In the first round, Creed was knocked down by Rocky but managed to get up in time to continue his match. This surprises the crowd as this is the first time Creed has been knocked down. As the match progresses, Rocky takes several hits but continues to ask for more. Despite Creed's technical superiority, Rocky manages to continue thanks to his determination and unwavering spirit. In the thirteenth round, he was knocked down but refused to stay down and this surprised even Creed who had never seen anyone take so many punches but.
