    Over time, various civilizations have existed, many of which are now ancient. One of the most complex and fascinating of these is that of ancient Egypt. Beginning around 3,150 BC, a civilization known as Ancient Egypt formed in Northeast Africa. This was calculated from a method used by the Egyptians called chronology. Chronology was used to record rulers and dynasties, as well as important events. Egyptian development began when King Menes – the first pharaoh – unified Upper and Lower Egypt. This formed a society that progressed over the centuries. The type of government in ancient Egypt was theocracy. This means that they worshiped one person as God; and being primarily the Pharaoh. The primary writing system of the Egyptians was hieroglyphs, which used a few different writing elements.
