Independent Study Unit – Phase 2Literature ReviewIntroduction21 of the first 23 astronauts in space were firstborns; there is a reason for this (Hartshorne, 2010). They say that the order in which a person is born and the years apart between siblings determine a person's personality (Hartshorne, 2010). For those born first, they are seen as dominant and pressured, while the youngest child is the most loved (Hartshorne, 2010). The middle child sometimes feels neglected and has no sense of identity within the home (Hartshorne, 2010). Additionally, a house full of siblings close together will be very energetic, while older, spaced-out siblings will result in a very passive zone (babycenter.ca). Many parents like to have a certain number of years between their children for specific reasons. The reasons for conducting this study are to determine the overall significance of how age gaps between siblings affect a child's development. For some time, there has been a growing body of data suggesting that there are many facts linking birth order to personality or behavior. For parents who want their home to be full of energy, the age gaps between children are generally small. And for parents who would like to spend more time with their children, they tend to wait a bit...... middle of paper ......on/dobasicsearch?Query=sibling+age+gap&acc=on&wc= on&fc =offAge gaps between siblings: how they affect families.
